Music is the lifeblood of
our temporary existence. It’s
the expression of the rhythm of life;
a woodpecker
drumming on a tree trunk, rain beating
on a roof
top, feet tapping on a wood floor,
and even our own hearts beating in
our chest. Bluegrass, known
as one of the truest forms of music,
was born in the stark rural mountainside
communities of Appalachia where our
Irish and Scottish ancestors first
settled. The Celtic melodies they played
soothed early settlers and gradually
spawned a new
art form. Because this rural culture’s
fundamental belief was that faith in
God would one day pay off with a better
life in Heaven, their unshakeable faith
allowed them to endure the hardship
of their everyday lives. With scarcely
more than each other, these families
relied on faith and family to carry
them through hard times and expressed
their feelings through their
music, Bluegrass music.
