"
I first met Blue Moon Rising a few years ago and was immediately impressed with
their talent to play, sing, and write songs. I was also impressed with them as
good, down-to-earth guys. Their new album is a great collection of bluegrass that
I'm sure folks are going to enjoy. Good job, fellas -- keep it up!"...Ricky
Skaggs
Along with carving out their
own brand of agile picking, Blue Moon Rising delivers
promising versions of songs byTownes Van Zandt and
Bruce Springsteen...The band doesn’t approach
the Boss with a novel, slightly off-center, or re-imagined
Americana, like Crooked Fingers might do, but what
they do offer is a solid, tuneful, and full-hued take
on both “classics.”
...Left Of The Dial Magazine
Blue Moon Rising has hit the bluegrassical ball right
out of the park, across the river and into the next
state with "One Lonely Shadow," taking the
high, blue and lonesome concept to a whole other level
in the process. It’s just one chill-bump inducing
song after another. As far as I’m concerned,
bluegrass music is defined by songs such as "The
Hanging Tree," "Blue Moon Rising,"
"Stone Cold Loneliness," "Youngstown"
(the Boss is definitely beaming) and "I Grew
Up Today." There’s some powerful, high-octane
music here - the kind that makes you want to take
off running into the street screaming "thank
God for mixolydian mode" at the top of your lungs.

Blue Moon Rising's 'One Lonely Shadow' is some
outstanding material. Their cover of Springsteens
Youngstown
should make Bruce proud. Chris Wests' I Grew Up Today
has got that laid back country feel that to often
gets overlooked on the Country charts today.
One Lonely Shadow is a keeper and it's getting lots
of airplay.

"Blue Moon Rising is a rare and hot commodity
in the bluegrass world – fantastic young musicians
who do justice to the roots of the genre. They play
with an energy and spirit that indicates their relative
youth, but their harmonies and songwriting belie
their age.”

"Flanked
by exceptional songwriters in Chris and Keith, BMR
brings new and very well crafted songs delivered
with arrangements that evoke a very lonesome, picturesque,
and passionately true sound to our music. Every
song, either on stage or in studio, is delivered
with the same fervor and emotion in which one can
easily feel they were written - the very essence
of Bluegrass Music. I've had the
pleasure of meeting them at our Winter Bluegrass
Jubilee Show where BMR was our headline act and
they really nailed it. We had to have them
back as a headline act at our renouned PEI Bluegrass
Festival the following summer, an unprecedented
feat. In both instances, BMR delivered a superb
show with fine style, professionalism and drive
and all the while, picked up a whole bunch of fans.
They are great guys both on and off stage, a breath
of fresh air in our music, we're very proud of them
and we'd love to have them back!...Serge
Bernard, Bluegrass Island, 630 CFCY Charlottetown,
PEI, Canada."

CHART SUCCESS & RECOGNITIONS FOR ON THE RISE |

Blue
Moon Rising is an East Tennessee based band with a
unique and exciting sound, true to traditional bluegrass,
yet fresh with new, original material. Their name
is derived from the title of a newspaper article commemorating
the life of the “Father of Bluegrass Music,” Bill
Monroe.
Blue Moon Rising's sophomore
release on Lonesome Day Records is a brilliant collection
of powerful songs delivered with rich instrumentation
and stunning vocals. There are six songs written by
the band including “The Hanging Tree”
which is a look at the dark side of humanity through
the tangled branches of an ancient tree. The band
also delivers an incredible interpretation of Bruce
Springsteen’s look at a sector of society that
has been forgotten in “Youngstown."
Other highlights include
Fred Eaglesmith’s “Freight Train,”
Townes Van Zandt’s “Marie,” and
Verlon Thompson’s statement about the eternal
life of music in “I Will Come Back Again.”
Robert Fulks’s “Where There’s a
Road” is already one of the top five most requested
songs on Sirius Bluegrass.
"On the Rise"
is the band's third album and the first on the Lonesome
Day Records. Steve Gulley
of the band Mountain Heart says, “In my opinion, they're
the best kept secret in bluegrass music, but look
out because that's about to change. Simply put, this
band has it all. They play well, sing well, and write
well. Couple that with the fact that they are all
Tennessee natives (with one Kentuckian to boot) and
you not only have the complete package . . . you have
the real thing . With credentials like that
in a little over three years, it's safe to say this
Blue Moon is definitely Rising.

Review
by Bill Yates about "On
the Rise"
"The
musicianship is top notch and that includes the
songwriting. There's always something satisfying
with a band that can create their own material.
The arrangements are very well done and the recorded
sound is superb."

"Music Worth a Listen"
Blue Moon Rising "On the Rise"
Blue Moon Rising performs
contemporary bluegrass with a style that sits somewhere
between Blue Highway, Mountain Heart and the Lonesome
River Band. Tight vocal harmonies combined
with precise instrumentals give them the crisp,
polished sound of a modern bluegrass band.
On the Rise includes 13 tunes, most of them original.
